Folk song

In class we have been studying Chinese folk songs. To help go further in our studies, we are also looking at folk songs from around the world. One of the ones I found was a children song called Clementine and it's an American folk song.

Clementine

In a cavern, in a canyon, excavating for a mine,
Lived a miner, forty-niner, and his daughter Clementine.

Chorus
Oh my darling, Oh my darling, Oh my darling Clementine,
You are lost and gone forever, dreadful sorry, Clementine.

Light she was, and like a fairy, and her shoes were number nine,
Herring boxes without topses, sandals were for Clementine.

Drove she ducklings to the water every morning just at nine,
Hit her foot against a splinter, fell into the foaming brine.

Ruby lips above the water, blowing bubbles soft and fine,
Alas for me! I was no swimmer, so I lost my Clementine.

In a churchyard near the canyon, where the myrtle doth entwine,
There grow roses and other posies, fertilized by Clementine.

Then the miner, forty-niner, soon began to peak and pine,
Thought he oughter join his daughter, now he's with his Clementine.

In my dreams she still doth haunt me, robed in garments soaked in brine,
While in life I used to hug her, now she's dead I draw the line

This song seems to be made around the mining period and I think it's about a miner losing his daughter. He is sad for a while but then after losing Clementine for a while he has another daughter and kind of forgets about the loss of Clementine.

It was very hard writing a folk song and where to begin, but here's my folk song that I made:

Wild and Free

She gets up just before dawn,
Packs a lunch and a thermos full of coffee
Just to help her make it through her day.
She works long hours,
Just to help her pay the bills
Even though someday's it's just not enough.

She does the best she can
Just to make it through life.
She just wishes that there
was just an easier way to life.

She just wants to live her life,
Wild and free.
She wants to travel the world.
See new places
Without a care in the world.

She just wants to live wild and free
With no bills to pay
No long hours to work.
She just wants to live wild and free.
Just wild and free
